Bonus review this week because I forgot to post this review last week!! I am really enjoying Oprah’s Book Club so far. I like that it seems to put stories from all walks of life in it. This week I read Fall on Your Knees by Anne-Marie McDonald. I have loved doing these reviews so far, and I hope you guys are getting some good recommendations from them! I would love to know what you guys thought about the books too! Leave a comment after the review so I can see!

Fall On Your Knees
The novel follows a week in the life of Mary Rose MacKinnon, who turns out to be much like MacDonald. She is a wife, mother and best-selling author. They have a lot more in common than that, so you realize it’s no coincidence. When MacKinnon was a child she got hurt, and the injury ends up flaring up. This prompts a reflection of her childhood, all the angers and frustrations.
Throughout the book she relives a lot of her pains, such as coming out to her parents as a lesbian (yet another thing the author and character share.) The moms react less than accepting. You can tell that even though the parents came around to being accepting, the pain of their initial reaction stuck around long after.
The book continues to show similarities enough to make you feel almost like your reading an auto-biography. Now, most Canadians know this author as she is prevalent in their media. But, as an American I hadn’t heard too much. Now, though, I feel like I know her. It is a sweet, sometimes morose, and well expressed tale. I did enjoy it from start to finish.
I wouldn’t necessarily have put it on a top list of books to read. But, I am glad I read it.
I am now reading: A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry
